Notes from the Section Secretary

Cycling improvements in St Albans

In St Albans, Share-the-Road signs have just been installed in St Peter's Street. There are seven on-road painted cycle symbols, between the old Town Hall & Catherine Street roundabout. They are of good size (larger than the ones used in London) and are in the middle of the traffic lanes. St Albans Cycle Campaign has argued for these since the dangerous cycle lanes were removed from this road improvement scheme.

Coming soon to St Peter's St - Cycle stands - Herts Highways forgot to put in enough & now have no funds left - so STACC is funding some.

Cyclist convicted

Perhaps you have already seen reports of this recent case of a cyclist who has been successfully prosecuted for riding legally on a public road. This case probably creates a precedent which could affect all cyclist road users. An appeal is being made. You will find details of the case at: http://www.cyclenetwork.org.uk/news/ccn84.pdf

Club shirts and Jackets

If anyone would like club shirts or jackets please contact me. Jackets are £35, short & long sleeved shirts are £25 and £26.

Easter 2007

A reminder about Judy's planned Easter 2007 trip to stay at Castle Hedingham youth hostel from 6-9 April 2007. The hostel is in the centre of the village and is due to be closed from September 2007, so this may be your last chance to visit it. Anyone not wanting hostel accommodation can book B&B locally.

If sufficient numbers are interested, Judy will make a provisional booking in November and will need final decisions (and money) in December. Contact
